Portrait lighting that still feels natural

How direction, distance and controlled light shape a portrait without overpowering the person.

Portrait lighting that still feels natural

Good portrait light starts with the face, not the equipment. We look at how features respond to direction and contrast, then choose window light, a soft source or a more sculpted setup.

Distance changes the photograph as much as brightness. Bringing a large soft source closer makes light wrap gently; moving it away increases definition. Small adjustments can change the mood without changing the person.

Direction matters after the light is set. Clear, simple cues for posture, hands and eyeline help people relax. The goal is a portrait that looks considered and still feels recognizably yours.
